Alzheimer’s Disease could be a result of exposure to chemicals around your own home
According to a recent health report by the Safer Chemical’s Organization, an estimated 5.4 million people in the United States have Alzheimer’s disease. Two-thirds of those with the disease are women. By 2050, researchers from the Safer chemical’s Organization study estimate that the number of people with the disease will nearly triple to 16 million. With these staggering statistics, questions arise of why this is happening and how to prevent these numbers from increasing.
The Safer Chemical’s act released findings that exposure to certain kinds of pesticides and other chemicals increase the risk of Parkinson’s disease and may also increase the risk of cognitive decline and or dementia. So now the obvious question arises; How does one prevent exposure to these chemicals in one’s own home and life? As a consumer, there is a certain amount of control when it comes to what is purchased and consumed. Choosing the right things to eat and being in the right environment can remove the risk from exposure to these chemicals all together. A consumer well informed making healthy decisions is the only way to decrease the accelerating high percentage rate of people developing these diseases.
Flame retardants, pesticides, and petroleum are notorious for being linked to causing alzheimer's and a host of other diseases. These are also known ingredients in cushions, furniture, and mattresses. To reduce the risk of exposure to these chemicals one should purchase organic, green, sustainable, and locally made products. Not only to decrease the risk of absorbing chemicals in one’s body, but purchasing from big companies that are not eco-friendly contributes to pollution through packaging and manufacturing. Therefore, as a conscious consumer, one should make healthy choices for one’s body and for the local eco-system.
