What about Latex?

Have you ever wondered how Latex is made? The Futon Shop has Natural latex, with no chemicals in their mattress and finally here is a video of how it is made.

Latex comes from a rubber tree: here are some amazing facts:
rubber tree can be harvested up to 85 times a year and gives per crop approximately 70 gr of dry rubber.

* A forest of rubber trees has the same purifying capacity (eliminating CO2) as a tropical forest.

Natural latex is tapped from the Hevea Brasiliensis rubber tree on carefully selected plantations near the equator. The Futon Shop purchases latex from Latexco, which uses the highest quality natural latex in the industry. Elasticity and resiliency are dominant characteristics of natural rubber bedding components. This latex is called Naturlatex and it's components offer outstanding durability and guarantee the ultimate comfort in any sleeping position. This is the “greenest” component available to the industry and the most “eco friendly” product on the market.

The Futon Shop offers only natural 100% chemically free latex. We have two type of natural latex. Dunlap and Talalay latex. They have the same ingredients but through two different processes, you get two different thicknesses. The Dunlap process is steamed, leaving your mattress firm. The Talalay process is softer because it freezes and heats to form it's shape.

Latex is safe for people with allergies.
Latex foam mattresses do not cause allergies. There is one type of allergy “latex allergy” linked to the raw material “natural latex”. The vulcanization of the natural latex for the application in mattresses, upholstery, car tires, etc. exposes the latex to high temperatures and this type of vulcanized latex does not cause the latex contact or respiratory (coughing or sneezing) allergy that can be caused in approximately 1 person in 10,000 by the proteins within the untreated natural latex. It´s the moulded latex used in preservatives, gloves or unwashed latex products that can cause the latex allergy.” In addition to the fact that vulcanized latex sleeping articles do not cause the latex allergy, these same sleeping articles can count on anti-house dust mite qualities and in combination with the right cover can be beneficial for asthmatic people.

Latex is a product that shows it is okay if you are a turner while you sleep.
A healthy sleeper changes, unconsciously, his or her physical posture up to sixty times a night (to avoid painful muscles and joints), so “turning” is perfectly normal and even necessary. The ability to change position without obstruction is an essential precondition of a revitalising sleep (Prof. Dr. Raymond Cluydts – VUB, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Zulley - University of Regensburg). The excellent elasticity of latex sleeping products allows the natural body movements of the sleeper.
